Shortcut Maker

Why make your users create shortcuts to your application/files/distribution? Many zip archive programs (particularly self-extracting archives) allow you to specify an executable to run after extraction. Shortcut Maker can automate the process for you and your user.

Features:

  • Specify your own bold, large-size title text on the dialog - include your company name and/or product name.
  • Specify the name of the Program Group that will appear on the Start Menu. You may create shortcuts in an existing Program Group.
  • Will create shortcuts for multiple files - will skip any files not installed/un-zipped.
  • You can specify which files will also have a shortcut on the Desktop (if user accepts).

Setting up Shortcut Maker is an easy, three-step process:

  1. Describe the shortcuts you want to create in shortcut.ini

  2. Include shortcut.ini and the shortcut.exe in your zip file along with your other files.

  3. Convert to a self-extracting archive, and specify shortcut.exe on the command-line.

Shortcut Maker shortcut.zip is freeware and you may freely copy and distribute it. Feedback is welcome - let me know if you find it useful, or think it should be changed.

If you want a version with your own name/brand on it, send me $25 (US) and your 256-color, 226X59 bitmap (bmp will be stretched/shrunk).  Contact me:
